Module 2 Training – B3, B4



The IFISH Module 2 training was held from the 13 - 16 January 2020 in Ankara. The content of Module 2 was B3. Basic Level – Fisheries management (including social and economic aspects of fisheries) and B4. Basic Level – Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management. Module 2 training was given by Vahdet Ünal, Evelina Sabatella and Mark Dimech, training experts.

The first day of training started with the opening speech of Erdinç Veske, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) Fisheries & Aquaculture Researches Coordinator. Later, IFISH Project Team Leader Mark Dimech Module 2 started the training by specifying the content and objectives of the training.

The first two days of training, B3. Basic Level - Fisheries Management (including social and economic aspects of fisheries) training was given by Prof. Vahdet Ünal, Ege University, Faculty of Fisheries, Department of Fish Capture and Seafood Processing Technology, Fishing Technology Section and Dr.Evelina Sabatella, fisheries economists at Nisea Fishery and Aquaculture Research Organization.

In B3. Fisheries Management training introduction, tools to be used for fisheries management, data and scientific advice and tools to be used for fisheries management are the titles that compose topics. Vahdet Ünal made presentations about history of fisheries management, its concepts and fisheries management plans with introduction to EAF and relations with stakeholders. In the presentations, the objectives, management objectives, how those objectives will be achieved, current and future management measures and how the plan will be reviewed, should be in the fisheries management were discussed. Ünal also made comments about the process which shows how the distribution of duties of the fisheries management authority is.

In B3. Fisheries Management, other training expert Evelina Sabatella made presentation about social and economic analysis of fisheries and fishers, policy making in fisheries and scientific information into fisheries. Sabatella made evaluations about the EU member states on the examples of management.

At the end of B3. Fisheries Management training, certificates of participation were given to participants and the next training, B4. Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management, was started.

In B4. Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management training, the main topics are under the title of introduction, tools to be used for fisheries management, data and scientific advice and tools to be used for fisheries management are the titles that compose topics.

B4. Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management training was given by Mark Dimech, IFISH Project team leader, and Vahdet Ünal. Dimech made presentations about ecological wellbeing, review of performance of the management system, reporting and communication of performance. On the other hand, Ünal made presentations about defining the fishery, societal values and high-level objectives, finalize EAF baseline document, ecological and human wellbeing, determine operational objectives, indicators and performance measure selection which include EAF management system.

At the end of the Module 2 B4 training, where the number of participation was high and interactive, participation certificates were given to participants with the participation of Ali Ayar, General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM), Head of Livestock and Aquaculture Research department and Module 2 training was completed successfully.
