A 2.6 Workshops: Protocols & Methodologies

A 2.6 Workshops: Protocols & Methodologies was held in Ankara from the 3-4 March, 2020. The workshop was attended by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry staff as well as academic staff from the universities. The agenda of the workshop was moderated by Mark Dimech and Paolo Carpentieri.

On the first day of the workshop, adoption of the agenda, meeting objectives and expected outputs were explained. Then, introduction to the GFCM-DCFR and to the EU-DCF, context and legal instruments, sampling methodologies for the collection of ecosystem indicators such as biological data, landing and effort data, survey data, recreational fishery data were discussed.

On the second day of the workshop, level of fishing and impact of fisheries on biological resources and marine ecosystem, collection and the evaluation of related data (Incidental bycatch of vulnerable species, non-indigenous species, macrobenthos ,marine litter,VMS-AIS data) the collection on data for recreational fisheries, data on anadromous and catadromous species evaluations were made about the relevant data.

Also, in the workshop, the participants were divided into four groups and the exercises related to “selection of the fleet for the collection of effort, landing and biological data”, “selection of major fleet segments for each area for biological sampling”, “number of fishing trips to be sampled for biological sampling” and “number of individuals to be sampled” were made. The results of the exercises were also shared with the participants by the representatives of the groups.
