Science with Industry Initiatives Workshop (WKSCINDI) by ICES

Science with Industry Initiatives Workshop (WKSCINDI) by ICES (WKSCINDI) was held on 24-26 June 2019 in Kopenhang, Denmark. On behalf of IFISH project, the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies, Fisheries and Aquaculture Researches Coordinator Erdinç Veske and Project expert Binhan Ganioğlu attended.

In the workshop, where participants from 14 countries such as US, Norway and Turkey with a total number of 50, it was aimed to address the position in the industry to obtain scientific information with a current point of view. In this regard, it is planned to create a roadmap for the use of scientific data in industry.

In the workshop, participants shared their experiences of data collection in the industry; the importance of industry in the use of scientific data for future projects in areas such as fisheries management and business intelligence where way of data collection is using was discussed. In this workshop, it was a study in which important recommendations for the development of survey planning groups, stock assessment groups, RDBES and Regional Coordination groups were discussed.

At the end of the workshop, it was emphasized the importance of using data obtained from industry to develop scientific knowledge and provide data for stock evaluation assessment. In addition, evaluating the use of sampling data is discussed. Finally, in order to review progress in this discipline, a consensus was reached to come together with wider group in 2-3 years.
