Strategy Workshop

Strategy Workshop was held in Bolu on 24-26 September, 2019. The workshop was attended by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry staff as well as stakeholders DEM-BİR and SUR-KOOP representatives and academic staff in the universities. The main focus of the workshop was ecosystem approach and integrated management in fisheries activities.

The workshop aimed to develop a strategic approach to improving the quality and availability of data and information available to fishery managers. The legal and administrative framework, data collection and other elements of the ecosystem and the gaps and needs in the strategic area have been identified and related presentations and discussions have been made.

On the first day of the workshop, project leader Ian Scott made a presentation about stakeholder involvement and Multi-representative National Fisheries Advisory Board and funding. On the second and third day of the workshop, Italian experts Claudia Musumeci and Mario Sbrana made presentations about stock assessment in fisheries activities, biological reference points, and fisheries dependent and fisheries independent data. During the presentations, the gaps and needs were identified and the strategies that should be included in the operational plan were identified.

On the last day of the workshop, by catch species, vulnerable species and ETP species that belong to ecosystem other elements were discussed by considering ecosystem-based fisheries management, which is one of the main objectives of the IFISH project.
